National Front Vs BNP in Oldham By-election
Following the unsurprising news that Nick Griffin will contest the East Oldham and Saddleworth by-election, I was somewhat taken aback by claims that the National Front intends to contest the seat via one of their more savvy members.
Chris Jackson, a man who needs no introduction to BNP watchers, is considering running against Griffin in this constituency by-election in February.
The former BNP regional organiser took a healthy 2,236 (4.9%) votes in the Rochdale constituency, which was easily the best 2010 general election result for the National Front. In fact, it was the best general election result for an NF candidate since 1979.
This May, the BNP’s candidate for this constituency, Alwyn Stott, took 2,546 (5.7%) votes. Not a bad result at all.
However, this by-election is going to be a firecracker. It will be utilised as a yardstick to measure public opinion of the coalition government. And let us not forget that the loud mouth George Galloway will be standing – he’s sure to raise tensions with his bombastic speeches.
Picture the scene: the counting hall surrounded by hordes of wailing anti-nationalists, interspersed with aggressive Muslim youths. Inside, NF supporters clash with Nick Griffin’s unsightly gorillas.
Of course, it would only be to British Freedom’s detriment to get ourselves involved in this potentially pugilistic by-election. So, to my knowledge, we won’t be standing a candidate. The argument in favour seems to be that this by-election offers British Freedom the chance to cut its teeth, which in a sense, is not untrue. However, I personally feel that this would be trying to run before we can crawl.
Furthermore, this by-election has a potentially favourable outcome for us. This could very well be Griffinism’s last electoral throw of the dice. I don’t think we should fight Griffin, because it would only provide him with a very convenient scape goat when he recieves the thrashing he so sorely deserves.
I can see it now: BNP comments section
Mr Doodles says:
“Those state-created British Freedom lot cost our chairman that election!”
That it’s a completely retarded statement, with no basis in truth, is irrelevant. The more outrageously fallacious the comment, the more likely it is to be believed within the political Church of Scientology that is the BNP.
We don’t need to fight this election, aside from the reasoning above, there is the fact that we would receive a considerably smaller vote than the BNP, which would further embolden our opponents, and buoy those wavering BNP supporters and voters. In other words, it would put people off.
Let Griffin cook his own goose, I say. Or, let Chris Jackson cook Griffin’s goose.
